Both are examples of technologies I described in a previous article I wrote. The thesis of that article was that platform technology will accelerate the pace of innovation in treating – and curing – disease.

What will we see in healthcare in the year ahead?

As I approached my 3rd anniversary at Health Market Experts, I wondered, What will we see in healthcare in the year ahead that is new? Then I realized a year is not enough time. The pace of change in healthcare can be glacial! Especially when it comes to new technologies or innovative health policies. Many of our strategic assessments look at a 5- or 10-year horizon.

AI Can't Do Everything

In What AI still Doesn't Know How to Do, (Wall Street Journal), Alison Gopnik describes artificial intelligence as another in a long line of communication methods, which she refers to as "cultural technologies." To help allay concerns stoked by the recent claim that AI programs might be sentient, she explains AI falls short in innovation contests with young children. The child can imagine an outcome and invent a way to pursue it, which are activities the machine cannot initiate on its own.
